Thanks Horatia. I've drafted a letter. This is actually for a colleague. I looked up his ancestor on the Surrey Burial Register for 1819 and saw a handwritten note, saying 'Servant to HRH the Duchess of York.' He was as astonished as I was when I told him. This was the wife of the Duke of York made famous by the song, 'The Grand Old Duke of York'.

I found a relative who was in charge of the Royal Kennels at Windsor Castle. I found him doing a normal search. Sheila

I remember seeing a TV programme last year in which somebody had an ancestor who was a servant in the Royal household. The records were held at Windsor castle. I've been googling busily but I cant find the website or address where these records are held. Does anybody know?
