Can anyone help me in finding someone who died in the 1914-18 war. I have had recent contact with an old cousin who has stated that one of my father's brothers was killed during the war. Unfortunately she doesn't know which brother it was (there are 3 it could be). I also do not know what regiment they would have been in. Is this an impossible task? |

I guess the next step is to look for the deaths of the three brothers in the GRO registers. If you find two of them in there, then the third is the one you want. Jim |

Thank you so much Jim. I only logged off to prepare lunch and when I came back you had all this information. My George Thomas is the one where the parents are William and Louisa. You have numbered them 35, 36 & 37 but state 38 is the son of William & Louisa - do you mean 35? I cannot believe you found it so quick. Would I be able to get any further information on him from anywhere? The Velda you speak of contacted me a while back and it was such a tenuous connection it wasn't worth mentioning. Unfortunately I let her view my tree because I thought she was going to offer me something of a connection only she took all of my family and has put it all on her tree including my living brothers and sister. |

Sorry for delay - had to go and hang some lights up (while no dogs around). This is the info on the CWGC site - If you go onto it, yourself, you can print off a certificate. As it also gives you the service number, you should be able to get more info from the records at Kew. Site name (change * to . ) is www*cwgc*org. Select search and off you go. They do not always come up in the same order, so you will need to find the entry which shows 26 MANNING, GEORGE THOMAS Private 1207 18/07/1918 Unknown Australian Pioneers Australian Plot 2. Row F. Grave 19. CORBIE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION Additional info is9click on the name to get this. Name: MANNING, GEORGE THOMAS Initials: G T Nationality: Australian Rank: Private Regiment/Service: Australian Pioneers Unit Text: 3rd Date of Death: 18/07/1918 Service No: 1207 Additional information: Son of William and Louise Manning; husband of Mrs. L. M. Manning, of Spring Street, Queenstown, South Australia. Native of England. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Plot 2. Row F. Grave 19. Cemetery: CORBIE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION If you then click on CERTIFICATE, you will get a page you can print. All the best. Jim |

Hi Carol If you have credits on findmypast.com (new name for 1837online) you can also find information there in their 'soldiers who died in the great war' database. I found more information about my great great uncles, including where they had enlisted. This could be useful for you if you are trying to work out which of the possibilities are most likely to belong to you! Good luck :o) Cheryl |
