We're all crazy now Report 22 Dec 2006 19:22

Christmas greetings from another Jeannie! I've had that email too - I've just ignored it, it doesn't tell me anything that I don't already know. Jeannie

Many thanks for all replies. And a big hello to fellow Jeanie!! Have not been on this site much recently so will take this chance to send Xmas Greetings to any who remember me. Off to see if I can untick any boxes. Jeanie A.

I had a match for someone's maiden name unfortunately she had married by 1901 and I already had her under her married name. Unless your relative has a very unusual name I should think the chances of them finding a genuine match were about 10/1 against. For those that don't know it is possible to search all censuses on ancestry and you can buy units if you don't want to join.

My relative (not) that GR found for me lived in London. No members of my extended family have ever had any London connections. I just ignored their kind invitation to follow this up by purchasing credits to find out more about this so-called relly. Now if they can find the origins of Michael McDonough from Galway, then I might just be interested. Jay

So, if I do not respond can I expect another e-mail telling me that they have found my Gt. grandfather?

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 22 Dec 2006 09:38

They chose to write to me about one of my distant 'married-ins' and gave a list of possibles. It did give the impression that there was a definite match, at first, and only when one clicked on links need it reveal the need to buy credits. I wonder what governs their choice of 'match.' ? Gwyn

I hope not. I have never had one, but perhaps its because I have the offer of the GR newsletter unticked in my account details.

Her Indoors

Her Indoors Report 22 Dec 2006 09:34

No, it means that they want you to buy their pay-per-view service, and is a very thinly disguised sales come-on.

I have had an e-mail from GR this a.m. telling me that they found a relatives on the 1901 and that I should look at it. Does this mean that I am going to receive hundreds of e-mails as they track down others in the same position? Jeanie
