If you haven't seen this cousin for so many years, you clearly can't know how reliable a person he/she is..............be cautious. Reg |

David You don't say whether your parents were legally married at the time of your birth. The law states that the husband of a married woman is always the father of her children - unless her husband says differently. The father of the child who is not married to the mother, cannot be included on a birth certificate, unless he attends registration, or supplies a written, sworn statement (by declaration). This might happen if the father is in the armed forces and away, for instance, but who wants to be recognised as the father of the child. Does that help? You need to compare birth certificates - which don't always tell the truth, of course. A simple, reasonably cheap DNA test would decide whether or not you are closely related - same father, and/or same mother. Have you thought about what you are going to do with any findings? You may be opening a distressing can of worms for other members of your family. OC |
