Can anyone give me any advice on how to upload my tree onto my new laptop? I thought the info would be stored on the CD, but it comes up blank when i put it in. I don't have broadband, so i can't put the file on the internet from my old comp. This is really frustrating! Can anyone help? Liz

I think you will need to copy the file over. The file may fit on a floppy. Alternatively: If you buy a memory stick (around £15) you can use that to transfer files.

Thanks, i was talking about the Family Tree Maker CD. I've attempted to back it up on my old comp, but its so slow and eventually freezes. After buying this new laptop, i'll have to wait to buy a memory stick! Liz

Have you thought of emailing the file from your old PC as an attachment, and then downloading the message with the new?

Liz, please exeplain exactly what you are trying to do. What do you mean when you say you have tried to back up the CD. ?? Ron www*genealogyprinters*com

You should simply need to install the Family Tree program from the CD onto your new computer, then copy the data file from the old computer to the new one, as above. No need to back up the CD on your old computer as the data will be in a separate file on your hard drive.
