Hello, I have managed to let my credits for the above expire!! I am desperate to see if there is any more info on a marriage that I need. I am looking for the marriage which I have found on Familysearch, between John McIntosh and Mary Row on 15th April 1808, at Canongate, Midlothian. Would Scotlands People give any more info than Family Search? If so, I would aprreciate (very much!!) a look up. Thanks in advance. Carol |

1808 would be the old parish registers. Do they have all the info that the statutory registers have? Why don't you ask Mhairi on Records if she could look it up for you? Janice |

Thanks Val, Jane and Janice. Can't buy more credits at the moment as have been banned by OH for overuse of our card recently. Will pop over to the other board as you suggest. Once again, thanks for your responses. Merry Christmas Carol x |

You won't get certificates before 1855 the parish records only give you same info that is on the screen but if lived till after 1855 in Scotland death records will have parents names on certificate |

Carol, try scotsorigins - it's free to search but will give the basic info. Ancestry now has 1841/51 and 61 censii - but watch 61 as there are mistakes! There's a new site - www.scotfamtree.11.forumer.(com) which specialises in Scottish look-ups - and we're all dedicated! One of the members has access to Old Parish Records and occasionally, just occasionally, there can be a wee snippet of info added to the actual record - nowhere near as much as after 1855 of course! Have a look - you need to register but it's free just now. New stuff coming in Jan which will have a subscription for those who want it. I've no credits just now either but I wouldn't waste the credits on the OPR (just now anyway) - better to go the extra credits on something after 1855. Good luck, Christine |

Got credits so had a look but no death for Mary Row/McIntosh after 1855. Haven't looked for John - there is just too little info to go on at present. Dtr Janet b. 29/01/1809 in Dalkeith - but you may already have this. There may be other children but that's the only one that was on the page on Scotsp. Dalkeith isn't that big a place and it may have Monumental Inscription Index which would let you know if they were buried there and had a headstone. Not sure where you would get this info - poss the library - but if you do go on to scotfamtree then by all means ask, someone might know. Now, I've had a look at census - 1841 has a likely match, Mary b. 1789 (independant - so poss widowed?) and children: Janet b. 1809, James 1814, Marjory 1820 and Sarrah 1823 (girls are all Hat Trimmers). However there are 2 children there b. 1831 and 1833 so that would suggest that this Janet is married to James. There's another Janet (Needlewoman) on the 1851 census - b. 1809 in Dalkeith - but she's a prisoner in Edinburgh Prison! If that one isn't your one then she must have been married by then as no others fit the date. |

Thank you Betty and Christine. I do actually have the family in 1841 and 1851, but thank you so much for checking. I didn't have Maizie, so this is a good find, thank you!! By 1861, James has married Charlotte Sinclaire and has moved to London. John, who is another son, must also have been living in London at around that time, as he has a son John baptised in Old Holborn, London. John McIntosh is my link, he is my great great grandad. By 1871. The family are living in Salford, Manchester, where we still live today. Once again, thank you so much for your help. Merry Christmas and Happy New year. Best wishes Carol |
