Paul You are right - but FreeBMD is updated more often than Ancestry so is more likely to give results |

Lorraine, Ancestry is one of the sponsors of FreeBMD. Ancestry has the FreeBMD as well as the complete BMD indexes. The only transcribed BMD records on Ancestry are from FreeBMD! Paul |

I think you will find that GR members generally advocate searching the full records for events after c1911, which freebmd has hardly touched. Reg |

I transcribe for FreeBMD, and while it is true that pages after 1911 are not transcribed, an awful lot have been from before that time. If you can't find what you're looking for, there are pages on there where you can check how much of a year has been completed. Its certainly faster than trawling through each Qtr on Ancestry, unless is it post 1911. |

Can I give a plug for the FreeBMD website (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ - I know that many people on here advocate searching every quarter of every page in the full index on Ancestry but can I suggest that first the FreeBMD site is searched. Many years are complete on there (more than on Ancestry which isn’t updated as often) and searching here first, making a note of any quarters for which no results are found, is much quicker and easier on the eyes than searching the index images. The quarters for which no results are found can then be searched in the full index. |
