Can anyone please help me..... Looking for the death of a Walter Ambrose Christmas Prosser, Cpl in the Lancashire Fuisilers. Died at sea maybe on HMS Rewa, travelling around India's waters in 1911. Born 01/06/1874 in St Saviour, Southwark, London. Married Grace Thomas in 1901, Stockbury, Kent. Had three daughters Beatrice 1902, Eva 1903 and Ivy Grace 1904. Grace died in India dated unknown. Walter married a Jane Heferen born 1878 from Tipperary, Ireland in India and had two further daughters Bridget 1908 and Miriam 1910. Jane was a nurse/midwife. After Walter's death at sea, the family travelled back to Ireland/UK on board HMS Dongola, when unknown. And rumour is the three daughters from first marriage were placed in an orphanage somewhere in County Cork. All your help and time would be greatly received . Tracey.

There is a Death of a Walter PROSSER age 36 on Vessel REWA for a cert you can apply to the GRO (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates) and the reference you will need - GRO Marine Deaths Indices 1903-1965 - Deaths registered at Sea 1911 Page 70. You can see pic and some info on the vessel Rewa (HMHS - Hospital ship) at : http://www.atlanticdiver*co*uk/rewa.htm - replacing the asterisks with a stop. The HMS/HMHS Donega - See http://www.clydesite*co*uk/clydebuilt/warships/vessel.asp?id=10533 If you Google 'County Cork orphanages' you will find that there were several at that time.

Our family is from cork, the orphanage (I believe the only orphanage in Cork at that time) was called Bessborough and they should still have records. Hope I've been of some help Sharon
