Does anyone know if there is any way of tackling the situation where two brothers marry two sisters? I have my grandfather and grandmother in my tree with their respective siblings. However, my GFs brother married my GMs sister. How do I go about linking these two as partners, if possible? |

Hi. I know it is possible in family tree make because I have done it, and I then uploaded to GR which accepted it. If you only use GR, then my only suggestion is that you export your file, send it to somenone with FTM to get it updated. Then reload after they have made the changes. Happy to oblige if it helps. GR can only have one link between two people. If you want to record the details then you have to enter them separately. Progams such as FTM will allow multiple links between relatives. If you run a report which shows the same person more than one is will also number the occurrences. |

Hi Jim, Thanks for your kind offer. I am reluctant to make any changes outside of GR which may possibly cause compatibility issues in the future, however unlikely. The lack of the marriage link is more of a niggle than a major problem so I am prepared to live with it if it cannot be resolved within the GR tree generating program. Thanks again for your offer. Regards, Graeme |

Graeme You really should have a copy of your tree somewhere other than GR - if this site failed, you would lose everything. You can download a free tree maker from the LDS site - lots of people use this and I believe it is compatible with GR tree. I have mine on FTM (£5.99 from Morrisons, packaged as Who Do You Think You Are) which is also compatible with the GR tree. However, do choose SOMETHING - your tree is vulnerable on the Internet if you do not have an offline copy. OC |
