My grandmother was married and her husband did a runner. I think he eventually went to Canada. I cannot find a marriage certificate for her to her second husband. I cannot find out the law for desertion. Could a person remarry after a number of years of not knowing her husbands whereabouts. I am talking about approximately 1919. Any help appreciated. Georgina

In theory you could apply for someone to be presumed dead after they hadn't been heard of for 7 years. In practice, people mostly committed bigamy.
