I've just got the death certificate for my uncle Joseph, who died aged 14 months. Three causes of death are given. 1. Acute oedema of the lungs 2. Convulsions 3. Dentition Would appreciate any help with anyone good at big words because it seems to me that Joseph was teething at the time when he had sudden filling of his lungs with fluid (Antiquus Morbus suggest it would be serous fluid filling tissue space, and lungs of course are spongy) and as a result he had fits. Would anyone interpret it differently? Kate

I would have thought the possibly the reverse order he was teething, and suffered a convusion and from there resulted in the oedema, especially given his age

Could be, actually. Thinking about it, he would probably have been teething a while before he died, if he was 14 months old (maybe four or five months or more), so that might have made him ill which gave him the convulsions. I wonder if the fluid on the lungs came from already having a cold or maybe even from the convulsions. I think it could have been quite sudden because I have a photo of him from a couple of months before (for his birthday, I think) and he was a thumper. He was really chubby. Looking at the order of causes of death, it would make sense. The oedema of the lungs would be the primary cause, caused by the convulsions, which themselves came from the fact that he was teething.
