There are several ways to start your computer in safe mode, however, I find the following way works: Starting from having your computer off, boot (start) your computer and while it is booting up, tap, tap, tap away, slowly, on the F8 key located on the top of your keyboard......keep tapping it until a black screen appears and you will be given several options on how to start your computer.....choose SAFE MODE. You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move about on this page as your mouse won't work on this particular page. Your computer will then continue to boot. You'll get a message on your screen advising you that your computer is running in safe mode....just click OK. Your icons may appear bigger than normal and the screen a little distored....don't panic, it's supposed to look that way. You should now have no problem getting DISK SCAN and DEFRAG to complete their cycles. When those two tasks are done, simply reboot your computer and all will work as normal. |

Hi All :):) Generally I agree you would use the tapping of the F8 key to initiate the safe mode. In times when safe mode cannot be accessed because of hardware conflicts, viruses etc microsoft recommend using the holding down of the control key whilst starting. I used to have ME and I remember repeatedly tapping the F8 key as soon as any writing appeared on the screen at start up. This link should help: http://www(.)bleepingcomputer(.)com/tutorials/tutorial61.html Remove brackets Cheers, Horatia |

Hi, can anyone tell me how to get a computer running Windows ME into Safe Mode? A friend of mine wants to know, and, although i used to have ME until fairly recently i cant remember, i thought it was tapping the CTRL button as you switched on, but he says that doesnt work,. Any idea? Thanks Fee |
