Cost of a will

The York Probate Registry deals with all England and Wales wills from 1858 onwards. You can search the Probate calendar (published annually) at most archives and then send £5 made out to 'HM Paymaster General'. If you can't make the search yourself the £5 covers a search of a few years. However looking for yourself may save you money if there is no will, or it was published many years after the death. In one of my cases about 20 years!!! Sorry don't know about applying to Leeds but added this for everyone. Anne |

It was a fiver - the address I sent to was York. Is yours a newer one? Postal searches can be made through the Postal Searches and Copies Department, The Probate Registry, Castle Chambers, Clifford Street, York, YO1 9RG. Wherever you are getting it from, just google the name and they should have a website with details. |

Does anybody know how much it costs for a copy of a will, and who do you make a cheque mayable to? I have the address of where to apply in Leeds but not how much it costs! |
