I have my paternal family tree on GR, can I also put my maternal tree on? If so how do I go about it? I asked the question of the 'GR powers that be', but got no reply!!! Thanks for anyones help. Ken

Open another account , just build a tree - which is free, dont pay the fees, use this account to contact people ( I have 5!)

The maternal & paternal branches of your tree are not two separate things, but the two halves of the whole. If you have a spouse, but no children, then arguably each of you have separate trees and are 'only' connected by marriage, but if you have children, then their trees include both maternal & paternal lines. Incorporating the whole picture, rather than just showing one branch, is just a matter of adding a spouse or parent at each generation. Why separate them (except for privacy) - it diminishes the whole?

I have my off-site 'tree' in 2 'halves', paternal and maternal. As I am the only common link, and my interests are in the past, rather than with living descendents, I prefer to work this way. It also helps with the 3 separate, unconnected lines of Atkinsons, who all have the same forenames. As I was an only child and have no descendents of my own, the only person it affects is ME. If I want to share information with a relative from my father's side, the maternal line is of no significance to them, similarly with a connection on the maternal line. My GR tree is much smaller and is 'my' tree, showing both paternal and maternal ancestry. My off-site tree is my record of extended families, who share a blood line with me. Jay

I have also in the past toyed with the idea of sub-dividing my Tree,mainly considering it by the various families.I decided against it though considering that;one heap of confusion is better than about eight separate ones! Regards William Russell Jones Cefn Mawr Wrexham.
