Aha - this looks like his birth reg!! Births Sep 1866 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Johnson Robinson A Thorne 9c 539 Perhaps the first name got mistranscribed when they compiled the index? (it definitely says Robinson on the image). Thorne is the reg district for Amcotts and this is the only one that fits. It also fits the baptism date.

You are looking at a christening. Parish registers for Amcotts, 1836-1997 Church of England. Parish Church of Amcotts (Lincolnshire). This does not mean his birth was registered.

If this is the one, then it's a baptism date - not a birth: ROBERT ATKINSON JOHNSON Male Christening: 05 AUG 1866 Amcotts, Lincoln, England Father: ROBERT JOHNSON Mother: ANN Batch No: C109841 There's no-one with that name on FreeBMD for that year so presumably he either wasn't registered or was registered with a different name (e.g. without the Atkinson middle name). Alternatively he might not be transcribed on FreeBMD yet, but according to their coverage charts, 1866 is complete. Richard

The IGI usually has records of baptisms. You don't give a date but from 1837 you could look for the birth registration on Ancestry and send for the certificate from the GRO.

I have found a relly on IGI and there is a batch number, dates, source call no and a print out call no on the form. DOes anyone know what these numbers mean and whether I could use them to obtain a birth certificate?
