Anulled marriage

Can anyone tell me how to find out about a marriage that was anulled? My ggrandfather married a women of the streets when he was drunk & it was later anulled!!! |

would have thought you can get the original marriage cert, the annulment would have been a legal thing like a divorce decree so that would be in court papers I,m open to correction tho . Shirley Have you any idea of when this marriage happened? |

Im not 100per cent certain, but i think it was 1913 London, George Arthur East to someone Peachy, (sounds like a joke name seeing as she was a woman of the street!). |

We have discussd this topic in depth many times here. What is SUPPOSED to happen is: Once an annulment has taken place, you should NOT be able to get a copy of the original Marriage Cert - the marriage will have been marked as 'annulled' in the Register and therefore did not take place in the eyes of the law - the Registrar cannot issue a cert of an event which did not legally take place. What seems to happen in practice, the local Registrars were lax in marking the entries as annulled and you can get a copy of the cert! Which seems to be so in this case, as the marriage appears in the index. Depending whether the marriage was annulled by the Church or by the State, you do legally have to get a certificate of Nullity before you can legally remarry!!! Annulment proceedings are usually filed at the Divorce Registry. OC |
