Gas Maker Made gas by heating coal to produce gas, which was purified to remove the tar. The coal would be turned into coke. The gas could be used for lighting, heating or powering a gas engine. The tar was used in road surfacing. |

hi to you all i was wondering if there are any good ways of finding out a bit more about how my anseters worked or evan were they would have worked id love to be able to see pics or read a bit about what there daily life was like most of my ansesters were miners ,iron workers and bricklayers although i do have one or two with different jobs does any-one no what a gas maker was? or a colliery bank contractor any tips ould be great thanks |
