I had an email from Origins stating that they have the 1841 online now and that they have 20% more names than other sources. Has anyone else found more on there than anywhere else, and is it worth paying to get a look? I already have Ancestry. |

Can't see how they would have more than Ancestry - their census index is supposed to be complete, for all available years. Sure it is possible that Ancestry may have missed a few pieces here and there but I doubt that it's anywhere near 20% that's missing. And according to the 1841 coverage map on BritishOrigins, that site still has Cumberland and half of Wales to do. Whether the names that you're looking for on Ancestry have been correctly transcribed or not is another matter! |

I gave up on Origins cos Ancestry has better coverage. their yearly subs werent worth it in comparison.Unfortunatley I was billed last year for another year without asking if I wanted to continue, You have to tell them in advance of renewal otherwise its done automatically. I made sure i cancelled this years subs due Dec, in the middle of Nov. Shirley |

I can look on Origins if you want to try to find someone not on Ancestry. I have found some extra ones that are not on ancestry but that may be because they have been badly transcribed. Origins have not got such a good search engine as Ancestry. You cant search for people in the same household so easily and you can only put county of birth in the search not the actual town/village/parish or whatever. I have only Origins at the moment and not ancestry. Julie |
