Pat The fact that they used the name Fox does not mean that Fox was their father, it just means that Fox was the name that their mother was using when they were born. You can use any surname you like, as long as you are not doing it for fraudulent gain. You would need to see the birth certs to find out who their father was - but I suspect that bit will be blank! As for why you have not yet received a reply - I think these departments work at a stately speed, as it were, six weeks is quite a regular wait and it can be longer. You could try emailing them, just to see where in the pile your request is languishing. OC |

I have located a divorce between my great grandparents on the J78 index. Now how do I get details of what it was all about? I have written snail mail to the Registry of the Family in London, but so far no answer. As I am located in Australia its a bit hard to visit in person! If anyone has any ideas I would be most appreciative. The divorce was between FOX Hannah and Fox Arthur in 1874, but the juicy bit of scandal is that my grandad was born in 1878, so maybe his mum was single at the time! I cant find his birth registered anywhere, or of his sister Dora, and they both used the name of Fox on their marriage certs. sorry to rabbit on a bit, cheers Pat |
