Sorry, only just seen your replies - no - doesn't look like he remarried - I searched from 1950 onwards. Thanks for your help. He died in the hospital so it was one of the hospital staff who was informant on death cert and it says someone gave permission for him to be buried. (Never seen that before but that is what Agnes says in the article). I suppose it's possible he may have been grieving for his wife and didn't remarry - or he may eventually have just co-habited with someone. Could even have had another child or two - but that will be difficult to pinpoint, not knowing his spouse's surname. I spoke with the reporter and told him where to find records of burials at Camberwell Cemetery and West Norwood Cemetery (which cover Lambeth) and he is going to contact them. Thanks again for showing interest - Athena |

Hi All I was reading my local newspaper last night and there is an appeal in there for help: A woman, Agnes Wright, is desperately trying to locate where her estranged father was buried. All she knows is that her father left the family home in Clydebank after her mother died in 1949 (Agnes was only 5 at the time and taken in with her siblings by their grandmother) - and he never returned. It appears he headed down to London looking for work. His name was ARCHIBALD SAVAGE and Agnes has his death certificate already that says he died in LAMBETH HOSPITAL on 22 September 1956. What Agnes wants to know is where he would have been buried and also whether he may have remarried and had further children in London (Lambeth?). His last address was 1 Churchyard Row, Kennington. Is there any way we can help her? Would his burial be on the NBI? Is there anyone with access to it who wouldn't mind doing a check for us? I am going to start searching marriages from 1950 - if anyone wants to give me a hand to do some of the years up to 1956 let me know. Thankfully, he has quite an unusual name! Regards Athena |
