In 1934 it should have the mother's maiden name in the birth index. If it's the parent's first names you want to check, you would have to order the certificate and give the parent's first names as a checking point. That way, if the parent's names were something different, the GRO would not send out the certificate and would refund £4 of the £7 cost. However only put the parent's names as a checking point if you are absolutely certain of the names, because if they are slightly different on the certificate to what you give, they will not send the certificate. UPDATE - Sorry, I didn't read your question properly. Thought you said birth certificate and not death certificate. Have p.m.'d you. Kath. x |

Unfortunately, a death certificate at that time would ony tell you the date, name, sex, age, cause of death of the deceased and signature, description and address of the informant. Kath's answer relates to a birth not a death certificate. Jennifer |

There is no way that you can tell, via the death index. A death registration certificate from GRO does not give the name of adults' parents, unless by chance they are the informant. If you know a likely area for burial, the cemetary records may show more information about that person and whether they are buried with relatives. Gwyn |
