For old wills you can search on the National Archives website. For archived newspaper reports, contact the family history library local to where the event happened as many of them have these archived newspapers on fiche. You can then search the fiche and print off any pages you find relating to the incident. Another place for newspapers is at Colindale Archives. (You can Google for their contact details).

Local paper for Leigh on Sea is Southend Evening Echo - they've got a website but not sure how far back they go. Southend Central Library might have info or maybe Colchester library which carries a lot of essex local history. Essex Archive office is in Chelmsford - Good Luck Sue

Births Marriages and Deaths before 1837 are called Parish Registers. Each County Record Office holds the Parish Registers for their county so if you are looking for Births Deaths and Marriages prior to 1837 in Essex, you would need to contact Essex Record Office or go there yourself to do the research.
