I have just received the birth cert of my great grandmother. She was born in 1851 in Kirkby Lancs. The place of birth is listed on the cert. and I would like to find the location. Is there any way I could do this? Kathlyn |

Google either Kirkby Lancashire or Kirkby Liverpool. You may be able to find a site with a map.At that time Kirkby was a very small place. You could also contact Kirkby library or Huyton library, which holds lots of information about Kirkby. Fran |

Moor Gate, Kirby? No street number or anything? Well, if you have a google you should find the area. Ill have a look. Well, looks like it may be gone Im afraid - this could possibly have been the place: Cheshire and Merseyside Health Protection Unit Moorgate Road Knowsley Industrial Park Kirby Merseyside Why dont you email the Kirby archives and ask if they have any knowledge of what it would have been like at that time - any photos they can email you? |

Hi again Heather, I managed to google an 1850 map of the area. It shows farms, the local 'big' house, and other workers type homes, but I could not see Moor Gate. My 2xgreat grandfather is listed in the 1851 census as a 'quarryman' and the map shows gravel pits, so he must have worked not too far from his place of work. I will contact Kirkby archives to see if in fact Moorgate Road was 'my' Moor Gate. Thanks for your help it is very much appreciated. Kathlyn |
