Hi, Im trying sort out this little problem. My ancestor Philip Pratt had parents who were Richard and Sarah Pratt. I have found the following children all baptised at the parish of St.Phillips Birmingham; Richard Pratt c. 01/08/1796 St. Phillips Church, bur. 03/09/1796 Mary Ann Pratt c. 03/02/1798 St. Phillips Church Philip Pratt c. 06/07/1801 St. Phillips Church Eliza Pratt c. 30/03/1807 St. Phillips Church . The problem I have is which of the following marriages is the more likely? Would the second marriage have occured even after the christening of the first-born Richard Pratt or could it have been a second marriage ( I have found a burial record in early 1796 for a sarah pratt in St.Phillips) Richard Pratt/Sarah Booker Gender: Male Marriage: 25 AUG 1789 Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick, England Richard Pratt/Sarah Bold Gender: Male Marriage: 22 NOV 1796 Aston Juxta Birmingham, Warwick, England Thanks' Stephen |

The child Richard's mother, named Sarah may have died and Richard ( senior) married again to another Sarah. A 'parent search' on IGI would show them all the children as offspring of Richard and Sarah but not define the mother. It may help to see the actual parish register incase witnesses help to clear this. Another option would be to look for Wills of either Sarah's parents in the hope that their daughter will be named as 'now the wife of Richard PRATT of Birmingham'. Gwyn |

I would tend to agree with Gwyn. Sarah (1) may have died soon after Richard (Jr) was born, Richard (Sr) would have needed a wife to look after the child and house so it is possable that he would have married within the year. Sarah (2) would then be the mother to the 3 younger children. Lunar |
