Hi Ros, I alway thourght Fanny was short for Frances (my daughter's best friend is called Stephanie but everyone calls her Fanny...I just cannot bring myself to say it...the poor lass...!!!). I had a look at this web site:- http://www.behindthename*com and they say..... Just looked for these B******* Fishers/ Ushers of mine and they are all on IGI under Usher , mother sometimes Frances , sometimes Fanny, Ros |

Yes, my great grandmother was registered at birth as Frances but was always known as Fanny. She even appears as Fanny on her marriage certificate (the second one anyway) and as Fanny on her children's baptisms. Cheers, Horatia |
