I have seen one or two records of Banns where a marriage did not subsequently take place, so check those marriage entries carefully! OC

Rose and Jim, thank you kindly for your input. I will be following up on the marriage entries and reading about the Banns today.

Hi Liesele Banns of Marriage - - The banns must be called in the parish church where each person is resident, and, if appropriate, in the church where they are on the Electoral Roll. Banns must be called on three Sundays before the marriage, but they need not be consecutive Sundays. The marriage must take place within three months of the final calling of the banns. Hope this answers your question. Jim Leitch

Have noticed from parish records that Banns were read 3 x prior to the marriage. Why 3 times, was this a legal requirement regarding the reading of Banns? This one has got me stumped: William Watts S Witchingham Susanna Copland S Buxton 13/11/1831 Entry deleted Does this mean the marriage never took place as a I can't find evidence of marriage in parish records? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
