Linda, The vast majority of parishes have transferred their historic parish records to the relevant county record office for safekeeping. However, the GENUKI page for this parish suggests that the whereabouts of these old records is not known (to them). I have done a quick search of the A2A website to see if they are held elsewhere but this has drawn a blank. I understand that the 'owner' of the records is the current incumbent of the church, so in this instance I would write to, or call them and ask where their records are held - and more importantly, how you can see them! It appears that the Wigan Family & Local History Society have the records on microfilm. According to their website 'you have to make a personal visit to view. These records are not on the internet.' Standish St Wilfrid C.E. Baptism:1560-1653 1654-1956 Marriages:1558-1650 1651-1973 Burials:1558-1652 1653-1959 Perhaps you will be able to find a GR member in Wigan who could spare an hour to help you search! Pete

The parish records are unlikely to state parents' names. I have my ancestors record of marriage in 1792 in Sussex, which states that they were 'both of this parish' There are 2 witnesses names, one of which I now think is the bride's stepfather. It is always worth following witnesses for clues, but often they turned out to be parish clerks or churchwardens. The records are probably in an archive. Check on Genuki to find the correct location. Most church records have been passed to the local records offices where they are transferred to fiche or film. Google for the office local to this church. Have you tried the IGI or any local family history society who may have transcribed them? The LDS can order fiche for you to look at at your local LDS centre for a small fee. Im afraid its unlikely it will show the parents names for you. Most marriages just give the names of the couple - though some areas are more thorough and in Norfolk Ive had the fathers of both plus occupations/address of groom but that is most unusual. The only way to track the parents down is to (assuming they are marrying in the same place they were baptised) go backwards looking for their baptisms and then further back looking for the parents marriage.
