According to the little that my husband knows, his father, who was born in Scotland was taken in by another family at some time during his childhood and he took their name. During the 1980's his father changed his name by ? deed poll to the name of his foster family even though he had gone through the war etc. using that name, he was then living in Southampton. How do I find the information about the ? deed poll so that I can find his birth name. Regards Cherryl |

Hi Cherryl, Do you have the death certs? If someone has had two names, it is recorded on the death cert and indexed under both names. That assumes however that the person registering the death knows this. Janice |

Do you know he changed his name by Deed Poll? It is not necessary to do so - people can use any name they want just by informing everyone they will be doing so. |
