I have a similar problem with my Lithuanian ancestors coming from a place close to the Lithuanian/Polish border, sometimes in Poland etc etc due to border changes. Try the message boards on genforum*genealogy*com - I would suggest trying the Polish board first before Ukraine. Karen |

I know the towns as I have passport for their immigrations but as far as I can find you have to go there itself and lucky if any records still survive. |

Did he come over as a civilian or with the forces? There are passenger lists at Kew but it's a case of open the box and work your way through it!!!! Forces records - also at Kew - might be more useful. Good luck. Janice |

Hi, i am having problems locating my fathers side of the family. He was Polish and came over here during the 2nd world war, supposedly with an uncle who later emigrated to Canada. My brother, who lives in Jersey has told me the family name is actually French, and has seen evidence of this, as there were several people living in Jersey with the same surname, and research shows they came over from France. The area my father was born in is now in the Ukraine, as Poland was divided during the war.I would not know where to start in begining a search of his ancesters.I think i can find his birthplace, as i am sure my brother has some paprwork of my fathers, but as this area is no longer in Poland, would there be any records?I need to find his immediate family before i make the connection with France.Any one have any ideas, please? |
