My FIL contracted TB and he was sent from Cheshire to a sanatorium in Cumbria. It was thought that the bracing air was more condusive to the healing than being in the smoke and smog ridden towns. Linda

Suzanne, That makes my mystery deepen. My Grandfather eventually died in 1920 from TB having been discharged fron the RAF. I will try and google it again later, I didn't have much success earlier. Many thanks for the information Anne

Has anyone come across this in their research? I believe that my grandfather was there in 1913. I have several postcards that he sent to my grandmother saying 'feeling much better'. So I assume it was a nursing home of some form. This was some distance from his home town in North Staffordshire. Many Thanks Anne in North London
