Hi all Does anybody know a good place where i can get history about my surname ..have come accross a few sites while searching for different things but would like some advice about any places any of you have got info from many thanks Sharon

Best thing is to have a google for it. I just have and there are lots of interesting people with that name who may be worth contacting. BUT I also found this: Fane Valley river bordering counties Armagh and Monaghan. So looks like good chance your ancestors were from Ireland.

This is what it says in “The Oxford Names Companion” Surnames FANE 1—English: nickname from Middle England, 'fein, fayn, fane' glad, well disposed. The word seems also to have been used as a given name in the Middle Ages, and in some instances the surname may derive from this. 2—Welsh : nickname from 'fain' slender. Variants:--Fayne, Va(y)ne.
