Hi all Does anybody know a good place where i can get history about my surname ..have come accross a few sites while searching for different things but would like some advice about any places any of you have got info from many thanks Sharon |

Best thing is to have a google for it. I just have and there are lots of interesting people with that name who may be worth contacting. BUT I also found this: Fane Valley river bordering counties Armagh and Monaghan. So looks like good chance your ancestors were from Ireland. |

This is what it says in “The Oxford Names Companion” Surnames FANE 1—English: nickname from Middle England, 'fein, fayn, fane' glad, well disposed. The word seems also to have been used as a given name in the Middle Ages, and in some instances the surname may derive from this. 2—Welsh : nickname from 'fain' slender. Variants:--Fayne, Va(y)ne.
