help needed trcing in india/east indies.

I have an ancestor (samuel haines) born in either india or the east indies in 1837 he is on the 1881 census living in cardiff but i am having difficulty in finding anything else out about him any ideas? |

Paul. It is very possible that his father was in the East India Companyon one census i have him as being born in the east indies and on another census he is down as being born in india but no other specifics. |

You will need to contact the India Office in London. My great great grandfather was born in India. His father was a soldier. My 2nd cousin found all the info concerning the births and baptisms at the India Office. Just google it, you will get an address. Think you may have to go in person or get someone to go for you, the info isn't online. Margaret |
