I am looking for information on my great grandmother Clara Augusta Mynn as I know nothing about her apart from who her father was and where she was living when my grandfather (whom I also know little about) was born. I have the following details, but if somebody who has a bit more expertise in this field could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Name: Clara Augusta Mynn (b.1860/1861) Son's Name: Charles Davies Mynn (b.1879) Home at time of Son's birth: 14 St. Stephen's Terrace, South Lambeth, Surrey (my great great grandfather William Parker de Morley Mynn was living at this address aswell) Clara does not seem to have any birth or death records but does appear in the 1881 census, said to be 9 years old. I would like to find out when she died and whether or not she had a partner or ever married, at the moment I am suspecting foul play regarding my grandfather's birth. I can't find any marriage details for her, so my granfather is still an illegit child :( Wouldn't mind finding out more about Susannah, I haven't been able to find a birth record, but I did read about an Eliza Susannah Mynn somewhere - maybe that's a lead? Hi Scott, I presume, as you quote her address at time of son's birth, that you have his birth certificate already? I would suggest that his father's surname was possibly DAVIES, as the child has been given that as a forename. In 1879 any single mother registering a birth was not permitted to add the father's name in the 'father' column. Therefore many unmarried ladies made sure their child had the father's name by adding it into their forenames. I have this several times in my family and, sometimes, the mother later married the man whose surname she'd given her child. Carlabee
