smith as a surname where the heck do i start

what a stroke of luck found their wedding cert on scotlands people and then went to family search site and found parents then found their parent now back to 1830 marriage of james smith and mary miller 5th dec 1830 in troqueer kirkcudbright i am so amazed i thought i would spend days or even weeks going through smiths i have crossed matched and they all matched wow i am on i high i can tell you thanks for all your help you are all stars xx

If you could get hold of Helen and Roberts marriage certificate you would find her fathers name as well as Roberts. You also need both their birth certificates, you cant really dodge getting all the links in the chain to be sure you are tracing thr right people. Pam

Hi There is this one on scotlandspeople.gov.uk 1919 SMITH ROBERT DAVID HUNTER ANNIE AYR /AYR if you want to see the image you will have to open an account with them and its pay per view, but you get to see the certifcate Have you got Robert b1920 birth certifcate? this will shows his parents marriage date and confirm parents names.

my husbands gran is called Helen emily dingwell anderson Trantor born 24/10/25 in Kemney which i think is near lossiemouth in scotland she married Robert Smith b 20/10/20 at Ayr they were married during the secound world war after her fiancee was killed. this grand old lady has just suffered a stroke and is unable to give me the place and date of the parents inlaw marrage or date of birth i have managed to compile a tree belonging to her family now i wish to compile robert smiths family tree his parents were Annie Hunter and Robert Smith maybe from Ayr although gran says she is sure the family came from Ireland originally and their name may have been Symthe. can anyone help me please
