I think I've just had a brainwave! I have of course looked on freeBMD for a potential death but 1906 onwards are very thinly transcribed. Only found out recently about BMDs being available on Ancestry for free so I reckon I will trawl through for a potential death. 1906 till about 1943 - should keep me quiet for a bit and, knowing the trouble this person is causing me, she will probably turn out to have got married after having the children. Roll on the 1911 census I say lol. |

as far as I know, no. She had OH's dad in 1904 (illegit) OH's uncle in 1906 and that's all we know. Didn't even know uncle existed unil dad died as uncle died in 1943. |

Didn't she ever marry? Reg |

yes Reg it might. Any suggestions how I might confirm that this Minnie is mine? Lack of marriage cert and no place of mother's birth on uncle's birth cert certainly make for a stumbling block lol. |

Thanks for that Kath, but I don't think any of those Normans are mine. Reg. Yes! I think that is my Minnie too. I have kind of adopted her but have not put her on my tree as I cannot find any documentary evidence of her place of birth. OH's uncle's birth cert stated name Minnie Norman, dom serv. but as she was not married I can't locate marriage cert or birth cert. I have even researched back to 'possible' parents of hers in Littleport and they did, indeed, come to Balderton. But I need that piece of paper to confirm me hunches. Sigh. lol cheers Rose |

I can only find up to no. 36 Smith Street on Ancestry. Maybe more houses have been built after 1901 or maybe the houses have been re-numbered. Kath. x |

Hi Reg, I am hoping to find some Normans there. OH's uncle Tobias was born at that address in 1906 to Minnie Norman who was unmarried. I think Minnie was in service on Castlegate Newark but was hoping her parents may have been in the house. No idea what their names are as I don't even know where Minnie was born (suspect Littleport) or when. The house still stands, typical Victorian terrace. Tis the village where I live. |

Yes, the 1901 can be searched by address.but only on the official PRO site, where it costs 75p per image to view. If you say who you hope will be there, people who have subscribed to Ancestry may be willing to search for you Why not check first on the PRO site, to see if address existed? As you have included a postcode, I suspect you are using a current piece of data. Reg |

Is it possible to look for an address on the 1901 census? If so, could someone please look up 40 Smith Street, Balderton, Newark, Notts. NG24. I should like to know the household members at the time. Thanks in anticipation Rose |
