Hi, im trying to trace my GGrandad but i dont know where to go from here! I have just recieved my grandads Marriage certificate, his name was George Smith born 1908 not sure where, and was an engineer. He lived at 10 Albert road Luton, i can find a Smith family at 10 Albert road in the 1901 census, but no word of his dad who was also George Smith, not sure when or where born! He was a coal merchant. Would there be coal merchants working in Luton, or could this mean he was from somewhere else? I know my GGrandad married Albena Beatrice Putman 1873 from Hemel Hempstead in 1899 and have ordered the marriage cert but it hasnt arrived yet. Cant find them in any census together! Any help would be grately appreciated! |

Who was living at 10 Albert Road in 1901? Can you post the details so we can see? Coal Merchants were everywhere so he could have been from Luton or he could have been from somewhere else. You might need to wait for the marriage certificate so you can get father's names and address in 1899. Sam x |

All i know from my dad is that his dad apparently lived above the green grocers shop on the corner of Albert Street and Langley Road, Luton, and his dads dad lived there or close by too. So confusing! |

Sophie Anywhere there is a fireplace, there is also a Coal Merchant! Incidentally, I have a Greengrocer, who was also a coal merchant, an Insurance Agent and a Carrier too. OC |
