Where do I apply for a certificate for a death in 2002? ...I do not know the exact date but found the entry on Ancestry...... I have been reading through old threads about recent deaths and am not clear about whether or not I can buy a cert. for recent events without knowing the date....... Advice please.. |

As far as I know, all you need is the info that is given on Ancestry - EG Dec qtr 2002 Sarah Thompson Liverpool 4a, 610 You just send off to the appropriate Register office. |

Thank you Andrea. I looked up the Registration district office details online and phoned them. The details on Ancestry were incorrect but I have ordered, with their help. Gwyn |

Hi Gwyn There's a rule now that you can't order birth certificates from within the last 50 years unless you know lots of info (presumably to help avoid identity theft). I'm pretty sure that it just applies to birth certs, and not marriage or deaths. I've ordered recent marriage and death certs with just the usual info and not encountered any problems. Mandy :) |

Hi Mandy I phoned the office and they looked for the death, from the details I gave from Ancestry. The fact that I didn't know a death date was not a problem but there was no death registered for the month shown. The assistant was really helpful though and found it was registered at a different time, ie. not Feb. 2002 but I don't know when until the cert. comes, hopefully within a week or so. Gwyn |
