I'm giving up on this now as it is clearly not working. I've been unable to access any of the correct surnames for 1928 in the complete marriage database. Whatever surname I enter, I get a page for a completely different part of the alphabet!

Hi There, I'm having trouble on it too. Maybe someone else could give it a try? I was doing a wide search for a William Septimus Dowson marriage. I have no date so I was hoping that his middle name was used to help narrow it down. He was born 1914, so I was looking at 1925-1950 as a chunk to see if anything obvious popped up....but right now I keep getting results for around 1880-1912. Even though I put in 1935 +20. Can anyone else get the correct dates to show on screen? This was a fishing expedition but it would be nice to see marriages that took place AFTER he was born. Possibly Cumberland..that's where i was trying to look Joanne

Janet, Thanks! Just stick a dunce cap on my head....I'm tired and using that as my excuse. Yes I was checking in the partials...thought i'd be smart and scan through...lol The family seems to all be from Alston, but I don't know the wife's name or where she may have been from. There seems to be a trend for the marriages to take place in the bride's area. thanks for the info! I'll try the complete later...I'd probaby miss it if I tried now.. Joanne

Okay, so much for sleep...I had to try again I just checked the complete marriage index for 1938-1949 for my Uncle William S. Dowson. The index is definately wonky tonight. It would tell me that there were no matches...there is always a list, match or not. Sometimes it would say '1-18 shown', but there was no info on screen. both times I found that if i hit the search button enough times it would finally reload and display on screen. I found about 6 of the scans would act like they were loading and then show nothing in the scan area. For one of these I was able to try again and get it to show. So, it looks like Ancestry is as tired as I am. I think I'll say goodnight and maybe the site will rest up as well and be better tomorrow. Joanne

Try to narrow the search down - born 1914 likely not to have married before 1930 any children if so what was dob for the first? - marriage likely to be before that death? marriage must be before this

Joanne, his full middle name won't be shown on the marriage index, just the initial. And when you do your search, make sure you choose the full indexes. Hope it works today! Kate.
