Allan, They could be listed as Hartley or Barker or Hartley-Barker or H Barker. Some of my family were listed with one name and some with both and some were registered at birth with one name and married with both. Luckily mine were unusual names so not too difficult to find. Heather

can anyone help please....found out my g.g.g.grandfather was named john hartley-barker at birth....his wife and children were hartley-barker,but later on they dropped the barker and were just named Hartley....my g.g grandmother was married as martha ann hartley....they were from dunham massey, just outside altringham,cheshire.....when looking for ancestors,do i look for hartley or barker, or hartley-barker in records?...i`ve tried hartley and barker on cheshire bmd`s,and although they`re not complete,i can`t find john hartley barkers bros/sisters or parents...john was born 1835/36...he should be in 1841 census somewhere....regards....allan
