Hi im looking for my gGrandmothers birth index, i can find her on the 1881 census, but as she was only 8 the only other thing to find is her birth records. Would there be any reason that her birth wouldnt have been recorded or am i just missing it Her name was Albena Beatrice Putman, born 1873 to Sarah and William in Hemel Hempstead. Thanks

Nothing on the index under (female) Putman. She may not have been registered. It wasn't compusary until 1875. Alternatively, she may have been registered under her mothers maiden name, depending on when they married.

They were married, she had 7 brothers and sisters and they were all registered, but she was the eldest so mst have not been registered! Typical!

If you're after Sarahs maiden name, you could get one of the other births certs. I know it's not the same, but it will give you what you need. I had to do that for one of mine who isn't registered.
