Your mum could ask them to do a search to see if the child was stillborn. You need a special form from the GRO at Southport. Give them a ring and I'm sure they will tell you what is needed. I'm sure there were lots of babies crying in a maternity hospital, so your gran might have been mistaken (or as you say, just wishful thinking). Kath. x

Always thought until recently that my G uncle and his wife were childless. On a visit to mum we looked through old photos and letters of my dads. There was one from my G grandmother to my nan when she was in hospital saying that G uncles baby had lived only a couple of hours. Looked it up and birth and death was registered as male G....... Cried buckets to think that they never even given him a name. May be worth looking under male/female Surname. Good luck. Libby x

Did think of a stillborn - could my mum get the details then? Mum was Margaret Ellen Allen dad was Thomas Edward Reason. As my Uncle was born in 1933 & he remembers it qwell he must of been at least 5 at the time So 1938 - 1943. My grans brother (who is still alive) Remembers their mum picking her up & taking a shoebox with them? surely not for the baby? As she had him in hospital it would of been a problem birth / pregnancy. She said she heard him cry when they took him away :-( could of been wishfull thinking

If the baby cried ( which it may or may not of have , of course) it will have a birth and a death reg, probably same qtr can you narrow down the years at all? want to tell us the names?

Perhaps the baby was stillborn, in which case it wouldn't be in the birth or death registers as there is a separate register for stillbirths which is not open to the public. Only the parents or siblings can access these records. Kath. x

My gran had a baby boy inbetween my uncle & mum. My uncle was born 1933 & my mum 1944. My gran told me just before she died that she had this child & that the doctors stole him (she was going a bit senile & living in the past :-( ) She saw him & heard him cry then she was told he was dead. The story from my uncle is that he was quite young when she was pregnant but can remember her getting very big & ill (pre eclampsia ??) & went into hospital - she came back without the baby & would never talk about it. How could I find a record of this? Just to prove the baby died ? I have searched the whole ancestery but no luck - any ideas - could I get access to her medical records? Thankyou
