Thanks for the help.. the certificate has now been ordered - I'm impatient though... 10 days to wait seems so long! Hi, can someone explain to me how I go about finding a copy of a marriage certificate. I've found the records that show James Holt got married between Oct and Dec 1900. But how do I get to the reference vol. 8e p. 609? I'm desperate to confirm his fathers name and this is the only way i can think of doing it. HELP :-) Jamie

...You have to send for the actual cert. The ref numbers mean it'll only cost you £7. You can order it online at www.gro.gov.uk...

You will need to get the marriage cert - you can order online from the GRO, costs £7. This is the website you need; www.gro.gov.uk

Esta - thanks for doing the search. I think you chose to detail the wrong bride :-) My great grandfather was definitely married to a lady called Emma Lee hailing from Rochdale. Any info you can find would be greatly appreciated though! Jamie

In that case Jamie it looks like the ref numbers you had aren't for your James Holt going by possible brides names. Name: James Holt Year of Registration: 1900 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec DISTRICT: Blackburn County: Lancashire Volume: 8e Page: 609 (click to see others on page Jane Chew 1900 Oct-Nov-Dec Blackburn Lancashire Charles Hilton 1900 Oct-Nov-Dec Blackburn Lancashire James Holt 1900 Oct-Nov-Dec Blackburn Lancashire Maria Robinson 1900 Oct-Nov-Dec Blackburn Lancashire

Here you go....This is the ref for James Holt and Emma Lee Name: James Holt Year of Registration: 1903 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun DISTRICT: Blackburn County: Lancashire Volume: 8e Page: 701 (click to see others on page James Holt 1903 Apr-May-Jun Blackburn Lancashire George Howson 1903 Apr-May-Jun Blackburn Lancashire Emma Lee 1903 Apr-May-Jun Blackburn Lancashire Elizabeth Parker 1903 Apr-May-Jun Blackburn Lancashire The MC woill give you the fathers names and an idea of age. Then you will be able to find possibles on the 1901 census. Good luck Esta
