I am looking for the baptism of Robert Mather born abt 1815. It is not listed on Family Search. I don't think there was an Anglican Church in Brinscall at the time so am at a loss to know which parish records to search. Does anyone have any infromation of Mathers in the area at that time? Or does anyone know the church used for Baptisms by the people of Brinscall at that time? Elaine

Hi Lynne No I have no parents or siblings. He was married in 1840 to Ellen Croft. They married at Blackburn Cathedral. They then lived in Blackrod where th Crofts lived, before moving to Salford where Robert worked as a Carter. He is my GGgrandfather. Elaine

Elaine I have ancestors from Brinscall. Brinscall doings were reported to either Chorley (St James, I think, from memory) or St Larwence, at Leyland. LDS have filmed both sets of records. I can tell you that much of the material from these two churches is missing from the IGI transcriptions, so a look at the originals may turn your man up. OC

Thanks Old Crone. This is a help. I've also just realised that as they married after 1837, their marraige certificate is available and should show Robert's father. This will give me a further clue. Have you found any infromation about Brinscall around 1800, it must have been a tiny place then. Elaine

Elaine Tiny in size, geographically, but not tiny in population! Yes, I have found loads of stuff. I am pretty sure that Brinscall had a Chapel of Ease, but cannot now remember whether there were seperate records - I think not, but it is a long time since I researched in this area. My lot were from Wheelton, but wandered about in Brinscall too, and I have found records of them all over the place. OC

Elaine A good start might be A2A. You can either search on the surname MATHER, or, as Brinscall is a small place, search on BRINSCALL and plod through all the hits - that way you will pick up any misspellings of the name. (www.A2A.org) OC UPDATE - scratch that - searching by BRINSCALL on A2A doesnt bring up anything of interest - searching MATHER brings up over 300 hits, lol, but may be worth your while to plod through. The LDS have filmed the records of Brinscall Wesleyan Methodists from about 1807, according to their site (search WHEELTON, to find Brinscall, by the way). May be worth a look if you cannot find your Mathers in the C of E records. OC

Thanks Old Crone. The Mthaers later are C of E, but worth a try. Will try A2A. many thanks for your help. Elaine
