Mynyddslwyn = Mynyddislwyn (a town in monmouthsire) Mon. = Monmouthshire (a county in south east wales) Rhiw Sir Dafydd = hill county david (rough translation) Most welsh place names were never meant to be translated and tend to be descrptive. Today Mynyddislwyn lies to the west of Abercarn and the East of Wyllie both in Gwent. Grid ref: ST216947 Lat: 51:38:47N (51.6465) Lon: 3:08:01W (-3.1335) |

Just a thought - what years are you interested in here? There were some terrible mining disasters in Risca in the 1800s and alot of Mynyddislwyn people worked in the Risca mines. If any of your ancestors could have been involved there is alot of info on the net including names of all the victims. Janice |

Are you sure of the spelling? Google came up with this Rhiw Syr Dafydd Mynyddislwyn which seems to be a mining area - Oakdale/ Caerphilly area (Copy and paste into google, if you think this is the place you want) Jay |
