hi i wonder if someone could have a look at the 1871 census for the following family there is something written in the column for occupation for JNO EASTHAM i think the occupation is waggon repairer ? but there seems to be something else . I think it might say RALPH EASTHAM deceased? could someone look at this for me many thanks linda x the 1871 census the family are living 55 high street standish lancashire john eastham age 76 ag labourer born coppull lancashire mary - wife age 72 born standish lancashire jno - grandson age 15 wagon repairer born standish lancashire joseph davies - lodger - age 31 brickmaker born boseley shropshrie |

Hi Lindy Lou, I think you are correct with the Waggon Repairer, but I would not like to say what it says above it, it does start with Ra but cannot make out the rest, and whats the long bar at the end? Keith |

I think it says something about the Rail. Not sure what the 2nd word is though. |

The words above Waggon repairer are Rail Servant..........indicating that the boy was employed by the railway company, as opposed to repairing wagons for some other organisation. Reg |
