hi i wonder if someone could have a look at the 1871 census for the following family there is something written in the column for occupation for JNO EASTHAM i think the occupation is waggon repairer ? but there seems to be something else . I think it might say RALPH EASTHAM deceased? could someone look at this for me many thanks linda x the 1871 census the family are living 55 high street standish lancashire john eastham age 76 ag labourer born coppull lancashire mary - wife age 72 born standish lancashire jno - grandson age 15 wagon repairer born standish lancashire joseph davies - lodger - age 31 brickmaker born boseley shropshrie

Hi Lindy Lou, I think you are correct with the Waggon Repairer, but I would not like to say what it says above it, it does start with Ra but cannot make out the rest, and whats the long bar at the end? Keith

I think it says something about the Rail. Not sure what the 2nd word is though.

The words above Waggon repairer are Rail Servant..........indicating that the boy was employed by the railway company, as opposed to repairing wagons for some other organisation. Reg
