Susanna & Maureen, That's the right James - Tring is very close to Aldbury in Herts. It's def. worth a try for Isabella although I've found her on lists pf passengers for USA leaving with James from Southampton and she's down as Ella there. Jo. |

Suzanne, That is a good suggestion about the name being Isabella. Jo, I had also done a search on ScotlandsPeople just using the male surname of Deacon and female surname of Stewart - using soundex - but nothing was a good match. Two results were for Isabella's but neither married a James. There is a possible James Deacon b. Tring on 1891 census but can not find him on 1901. Maureen |

OK Maureen, thanks for that. Looks like I have to think again. Any ideas what line I can go down to progress this couple? Jo |

ScotlandsPeople only show two marriages for James Deacon between 1890 and 1910 - without putting in a female surname. 1896 marriage to Elizabeth Clell Smith in Craigie, Ayr 1896 marrige to Elizabeth Wheelan in Canongate, Edinburgh City Also checked for marriages for Ella Elspeth Stewart, without putting in a male surname, between 1880 and 1910 and got no results. Could someone please look up a possible marriage, maybe Edinburgh, Scotland. Ella Elspeth STEWARTwas born there and around 1908 married James DEACON before going off together to USA. I've found them on a few USA census and in 1930 it says she was age 33 at 1st marriage, therefore born abt 1877 (I think James, definitely born 22 Nov 1873, Aldbury, Herts, was her 1st and last marriage). I've searched the England & Wales marriage record without success so assume she was married somewhere in Scotland. Jo |
