Member Since: January 2006 Posts: 59 Send Message	Hello Jane I believe that there were censuses before 1841 but these only contained information on the number of people living at different locations. The 1841 census was the first to contain people's names and details. To search before then you are relying mainly on parish records. If you are lucky you can view these for your family on ancestry or familysearch, but not all parish records have been transcribed for access online. I have been quite lucky in that I have found many of my ancestors on them. Hopefully someone else can tell you the best way to search before 1841 if the records are not online, but i have a feeling a trip (or several!) to the records office would be called for! Good luck! 	The IGI has pre-1841 baptisms, marriages etc.........although some of the records are less reliable than others......... www.familysearch.org Reg
