Church records?....

Does anyone know how to get hold of information in church records? Did all churches keep records of christenings, marriages and burials? I know which church (St. Nicholas in Great Yarmouth) but can't go there. Are records kept by the church officials? Who could I write to for information? Has anyone else managed to get information direct from the church?

The records are more likely to be in the safe-keeping of the County Record Office or Archives. Try Googling for them and drop them an email. They often have a website which lists all the parishes they hold the records for. Anne

Thanks Maria - that should keep me busy for a while! It would be brill. to find a bit more info. as I'm stuck at 1777! I'll get weaving on the sources you suggest and see what turns up. J.

Or you could check on the LDS site to see if they have any parish registers for that church. You can then order them in at your local LDS church to view for a small fee. Jeanette x
