Thanks for your help everyone, just found them!! I am having a nightmare trying to find a missing link in my family tree. My Great Grandfather was Henry James Waters who was married to Louisa M Grew on May 17 1891. I have their Marriage Cert. which states that Henry James Waters' Fathers name was Henry Waters (DEAD) but I cannot seem to find him anywhere. Anyone know where to start? Thanks again, Danny.

Have you got Henry in the census ? if you try tracing him back perhaps his father will turn up on a census. Something to go on. Germaine x

Hi Germaine No. I can't seem to find him anywhere. It seems that the family are from the Shoreditch, Clerkenwell area of London. Danny

Does the certificate give an occupation for both Henrys ? What does it say? This might help to find the correct one in census records. In 1901, there is a 30 years old Francis WATERS a visitor at Henry's home. He, like Henry is shown with birthplace Camberwell. We may have to look back on his census records to find out how he fits in to the family. A cousin maybe? Sometimes you have to go right back, in order to go forwards. Gwyn

Looking for Henry Waters born around 1870 gives 3 in London, two of them in Newington, sons of Henry and Sarah Waters and Henry and Margaret Waters. The 1891 census, when Henry is working in Shoreditch, states birth place Colworth, but I would read this as 'Walworth'. Walworth, Newington, and Gwyn's Camberwell all suggest an origin south of the river. Gwyn's suggestion about family reconstruction sounds spot on. UPDATED Thanks Jim (your message below) - I take it back about the Shoreditch Henry. Yours is born in Clerkenwell.

Thanks for all your help guys.... I also found the connection of Henry James Waters living with Grandparents Francis and Ann. My problem is that with the Marriage Cert. of Henry James Waters it states that his Fathers name was Henry Waters (DEAD). However, looking through the census records for Francis and Ann it appears that they never had a son called Henry. How confused am I!!!! I also found the Marriage of Francis and Ann in 1843 stating that they were married in Newington? If this is of any help. Thanks Danny x
