Hi everyone Lisa I have sent you my email so I can send you the letter. I haven't come across a John or Waterhouse Swindellls in my tree, but there may be a connection. There is a reference to 'George's governer' which I take to be his employer as they share the same father. However - he might have found the job through some relative I suppose. Well done Suzanne - sorry I didn't see your email last night. This is the only census where she is called Helen - the rest are for an Ellen. She is married to George here. Her maiden name is Kendrick. Henry P(rice) Swindells is my G Grandfather. My G Grandmother (who went with her sister) is Kate Kendrick. She later becomes Kate Swindells. 2 sisters married 2 brothers. William is variously described as a miller, confectioner and baker. In one trade directory he is a steam corn miller. In the 1900's he has another provisions shop in addition to the mill. I think George worked for him, as did Frank. How the younger brother came to be the head of the family I don't know. Thanks Lorraine - Ihadn't thought of looking at WW1 records, though would someone in their 50's be called up? There's always something to research isn't there. I'll take a look now - though I really should be doing some work!!!! Thankyou everyone Trina

I don't know if there's any connection, but there is an attestation paper for John Ernest Swindells from Romiley, Cheshire, England. Born 10-Jan-1884; father was Waterhouse Swindells. http://www*collectionscanada*ca/archivianet/02010602_e.html (replace * with .)

Wiliam is the Head, Mary his mother, Helen is sister in Law, Nellie 10 months old. George is a commercial traveller in Mills or miller. His brother William is a baker/confectioner so I suspect miller. Suzanne

Trina, I'm from Toronto, as were my ancestors. I'd be glad to look around for you (actually I did for a few minutes, with no luck). However, it's Thanksgiving Day here in the States and I don't have time right now (to continue). I can look more tonight. Would you have any idea what his occupation was? PS I have computer problems (banners covering your message). Is their name Swindells?

I was thrilled when my mother unearthed a letter written on 3 Sep 1883 by my GGrandfather to my G Grandmother, in reply to one she had sent from Toronto. (Sadly, no envelope or other letters though.) From the content I gather she has accompanied her sister Ellen Swindells and her brother in law, George Swindells and their child Nellie. He seems to have taken a job there. I have found Ellen and once Nellie on passenger lists into New York several times, but not George! Neither can I find him in Toronto! Ellen seems to list her age as 30 on most of the manifests! She is actually born c1858 as is George. Nellie was born Dec 1880. They travel from Liverpool as they live in Cheshire and sometimes Wrexham. They must have travelled out a few weeks earlier as he is responding to her first letter back, describing the voyage. Wish I had that one! Does anyone have any ideas where I can go from here? Many thanks for any help Trina
